WHAT IS EASTERN STAR?
The Order of the Eastern Star is the largest fraternal
organization in the world to which both women and men can belong. With over 1.2
million members worldwide, Colorado has about 9,000 members, and we are rapidly
growing.
The Order of the Eastern Star is NOT
a religion, although its lessons are taught using Biblical women; Adah, Ruth,
Esther, Martha and Electa, exemplifying fidelity, constancy, loyalty, faith and
love.
Our goal is to provide an organization where women and men with
high moral and social character can contribute time, energy and wisdom for the
good of all mankind throughout the world.
The stated purposes of the
organization are: Charitable, Educational, Fraternal, and Scientific. To this
end, the Grand Chapter of Colorado proudly supports the statewide community
through the collection of stuffed animals for traumatized children, annual
youth scholarships, and the Robert Russell Eastern Star-Masonic Center, which
is a retirement community and assisted living center, which is open to the
public.
Local
Eastern Star chapters select their own charities and places of service in their
respective communities. Many actively support young womens organizations
such as The International Order of Jobs Daughters, the Order of the
Rainbow for Girls, and DeMolay for Boys. Collectively, millions of dollars are
raised by members throughout the General Grand Chapter for its various
charities.
Membership is open to women who
have specific Masonic affiliations and men who are Master Masons. The
petitioner must be 18 years or older, believe in a Supreme Being, be of good
moral character, and be willing to assume the obligation of the Order.
